Steve Jobs announced the iPhone 3G at the WWDC 2008 keynote address to 5,400 attendees. The iPhone 3G comes as an update to the current version of the iPhone, which did not have 3G. 3G will enable much faster browsing speeds than the current iPhone. According to Jobs “it’s very nice”. We all knew that, but what makes it very nice? Well how does solid metal buttons, a flush headphone jack, gloss black, 3G, a better “feel”, better call quality, and a thinner iPhone sound? Well that is what you will be getting with this new device. Those are not all Apple is updating though, not by a long shot.

The new iPhone 3G has the dimensions of 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.48 inches (115.5 x 62.1 x 12.3 mm) and weighs in at 4.7 ounces (133 grams).  Taking into account a newly designed flushed headphone jack and slightly different dimensions than the original iPhone, you will most likely need to shop for new a new case along with other new iPhone 3G accessories.

The gorgeous 3.5-inch capacitive touch screen will need a screen protector even though it is resistance to scratches.  You just never know what may drop on it or worse if dropt it by accident.  Bodyguardz and invisibleShields are both excellent choices that’ll do the job well.

Apple also added GPS to the iPhone, a feature many current iPhone owners desperately hoped for. Over the next few months this new iteration of the iPhone will be available in 70 countries, including Canada, Mexico, and Sweden.

iPhone 3G External Backup Battery Accessories

Even though the iPhone 3G is supposed to have a better battery life, it’s still unfortunate that you can’t simply replace it as needed.  One solution is the Mophie Juice Pack.  Mophie has not officially announced the availability of Juice Pack for the iPhone 3G yet, but I have every confidence that they will shortly.  I currently use the Juice Pack with my iPhone, and I can’t begin to tell you how often it has saved me while traveling on the road.

iPhone 3G Car Accessories

iPhone 3G car accessories generally include car chargers, iPhone 3G holders, and iPhone 3G FM Transmitters. Car chargers generally plug into your car’s power adapter port; sometimes car chargers and FM transmitters are combined into one device. FM transmitters broadcast the music from your iPhone 3G to your FM radio, they either plugs into the headphone jack or the dock connector, if they are combined with the car charger, and they usually plug into the dock connector. iPhone 3G holders are stands that are somehow affixed to your car, usually with a suction cup, and they firmly grip your iPhone 3G so you can use it, navigate the menus, use the maps, etc without having to worry about it sliding all over the place.

iPhone 3G Charger Accessories

iPhone 3G chargers, the name kind of says it all, they charge your iPhone 3G’s battery. They come in one of two types, the first is they just have a USB port and plug into the wall and then you use the USB cable that came with your iPhone 3G to connect your iPhone 3G to the charger. The second is they have a dock connector hardwired into them and then you plug in the charger and connect your iPhone 3G directly to it. Either way, it’s simple and performs the basic task of charging your Instinct.

iPhone 3G Cables

Cables can do many things, mainly associated with how they connect your iPhone 3G to another device or port. There are USB cables they would generally have a dock connector on one end and a USB termination on the other. Most of the other cables somehow connect your iPhone 3G to either an audio or video device or a combination of the two. These can connect either via dock connector, or more likely, via the headphone jack.

iPhone 3G Headphone Accessories

Headphones are the primary method for listening to music from your Instinct, and with an in-line microphone can also be used for phone calls. There are in-ear ear buds, on-ear headphones that just rest on your ear or around-ear headphones that form some sort of suction around your ear.

iPhone 3G Cradle Accessories

Cradles can do many things, ranging from charging your iPhone 3G and syncing it to your PC all the way to instantly connecting your iPhone 3G to your entire home theater system. Your iPhone 3G may have came with a cradle that can do most of that, but if you need an extra, say a spare for your office, or on the likely occasion your computer and home theater aren’t in the same room, you can buy an extra cradle.

iPhone 3G Bluetooth Accessories

There will be many Bluetooth accessories that work with the iPhone 3G for hands-free talking. You’ll be able make calls while walking or just simply to lazy to hold the iPhone 3G for the duration of the call or especially when you’re driving in your car. The latter is a great option if you aren’t a big fan of Bluetooth headsets but want hands-free functionality while you are driving.
